How much should a property owner charge for rent?
The owner should charge an amount similar to what is being charged to non-voucher tenants for comparable units in the same area. The Voucher Payment Standard is the maximum amount of subsidy that CMHA will pay toward each tenant’s rent. The Voucher Payment Standard is NOT the rental amount that a tenant is eligible for.
Effective 1/1/17, the Voucher Payment Standards are as follows:
- 0 BR = $ 527 equals rent + utilities
- 1 BR = $ 613 equals rent + utilities
- 2 BR = $ 808 equals rent + utilities
- 3 BR = $1,125 equals rent + utilities
- 4 BR = $1,316 equals rent + utilities
- 5 BR = $1,513 equals rent + utilities
- 6 BR = $1,710 equals rent + utilities
